2024 CARB regulations
With a goal of transitioning all heavy-duty transportation to zero-emission by 2035, companies that want to haul refrigerated freight within the state of California need to be aware of the latest amendments to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.
All Carriers must now register and decal their qualified TRU's (Transportation Refrigeration Units) through the CARB/ARBER registration site, and only registered and decaled compliant reefer units will be allowed to operate beyond the "grace period".
What you need to know
- New regulations are effective January 1st, 2024.
- CARB registration is mandatory to all TRU's operating in California.
- Any new TRU built after June 1, 2023, must be compliant to enter California.
- Any TRU built before May 31st, 2023, will have 7 years of "grandfathered" CARB compliance.
- Each unit registration if good for 3 years, then must be renewed.
- CARB decals must be displayed on both sides of any compliant TRU entering California.
